Area residents that need to get to a medical appointment but faces transportation challenges may be able to benefit from a program just launched by Senior Services Plus. The new Medicaid Transportation program offers non-emergency, non-medical transportation to those who have Illinois Medicaid. The fleet is made up of a combination of passenger cars and vans equipped with wheelchair lifts.
Senior Services Plus Executive Director John Becker says they knew there was a need for this type of service, but had to go through a year-long process to get approved.
There is also a private pay option, with flat rates for trips in Alton and Godfrey, and a flat rate plus a mileage charge outside of Alton and Godfrey. Becker says this should not be confused with an ambulance service, but they are able to assist those with medical issues or physical challenges. To learn more, call 465-3298, extension 111.
