The work done by Senior Health Insurance Counselors at Senior Services Plus in Alton late in 2014 could pay off in a big way for Medicare beneficiaries.  S.H.I.P. counselors met with Medicare beneficiaries and their families regarding prescription drug coverage during the open enrollment period and those meetings are expected to save those beneficiaries more than $60,000 over the course of 2015.

SSP Information and Assistance Specialist Kelly Chapman is one of the S.H.I.P counselors. She tells The Big Z that those just entering into the Medicare program should contact SSP to set up a meeting to explore their options.

Chapman says open enrollment for Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plans ended on December 7th but that some residents may qualify for a special enrollment. If you believe you may qualify or just want to learn more you can call SSP at 465-3298 extension 100.
