A new greenhouse is going in at Senior Services Plus in Alton.  It is being made possible thanks to a $10,000 grant from Mid-America Transplant Services.  The theory is that by providing more fresh produce to the community – especially seniors – fewer organ transplants will be needed as the population ages.

SSP spokesman Kelly Chapman tells The Big Z the greenhouse will be equipped with a heating and ventilation system as well as a hydroponic system.
