About 1,500 Ameren customers in the Bethalto area were without power for a portion of Monday morning, and the reason is one we’ve heard before. Although is started as a reduced-power event for some, power was eventually knocked completely out for those affected.
Ameren spokesman Brian Bretsch says the outage lasted an hour and a half.

He says the substations have fencing around them to try and keep both humans and animals out, but notes squirrels often jump over the fence, occasionally causing these outages.
