The expansion of the Bethalto Sports Complex is expected to start later this month. Last week the Village Board approved an agreement with L.W. Contractors for the grading work associated with phase two of the sports complex project. Bethalto Mayor Alan Winslow says that the board was very happy with the way the bidding process for the project went.

Winslow said that contractors estimated the project would cost $300,000 and that the winning bid was approximately $221,000. He estimates the project will take about six weeks to complete after work starts and that the next phase would be putting the infrastructure for the additon in place.
The second phase of the sports complex includes the addition of six multi-purpose ball diamonds, a soccer field, football field, spectator bleachers, rest rooms, concession stand, parking areas and green space. If all goes according to plan Winslow says the fields should be ready for play by the start of the 2014 season.
