The superintendent of the Alton School District has officially stepped down. The Alton School Board formally accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Ken Spells on Tuesday, after Spells took a new position in South Bend, Indiana. The board is in the process of searching for an interim superintendent.
At the same meeting yesterday, the board met with a potential candidate in a closed session, but did not name the person. A handful of candidates are being considered to lead the district in the short term, with school board president Ed Gray telling the Big Z that they are likely looking at someone with past superintendent or administrative experience. A decision on an interim leader could come as early as next week. Spells will become the superintendent of the South Bend School Corp. in Indiana on July 1 and will be a guest this morning at 10:00 on Let’s Talk on the Big Z.
