Speed limits on interstate highways in Illinois could go up, under legislation introduced by one of the newest members of the General Assembly. State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer of Jacksonville has introduced legislation that would bump the maximum allowable interstate speed by 5 miles per hour in most places around the state.
The only exceptions would be in Chicago and the collar counties. Every surrounding state except for Wisconsin has a maximum speed limit of 70 miles per hour. Wisconsin, like Illinois, is currently 65.
