In less than a week, athletes from around Southwestern Illinois will gather in Edwardsville for the annual Special Olympics Spring Games.  It takes place Saturday, May 2 at Korte Stadium on the SIUE Campus.  About 500 athletes are expected to compete in the track & field competition, the most popular of the 19 sports offered by Special Olympics Illinois.

Opening ceremonies begin at 9:15am.  Special Olympics Illinois Regional Director Linda Wunder tells The Big Z these athletes love the sport, but also cherish the friends they have made over the years.
