The first major bid to help overhaul the city-owned playhouse in Haskell Park is in. Quality Assured Industrial Coatings of Alton has submitted a bid of $22,750 to cover the cost of paint removal at the historic building. The bid also includes an additional option to dispose of any hazardous materials for an additional $3,000.
The project will be funded by monies in a special account created by the City last year. To date, the Lucy Haskell Playhouse Association has raised nearly $70,000 to fund the restoration project according to City officials. The Lucy Haskell Playhouse Committee and Alton Public Works Director Bob Barnhardt must approve the bid before the City Council can take any action.
