A coal mine in southern Illinois will be permanently closed in the wake of a worker's death. Saint Louis-based Peabody Energy says it's shuttering its Willow Lake Mine. In a statement Peabody says the mine didn't meet quote, "acceptable standards for safety."
Thirty-year-old miner Chad Meyers of Goreville, Illinois was fatally crushed at the mine on November 17. Another worker died there in an accident in July of 2010, and the company has been fined by the federal government on two other occasions due to safety issues. Nearly 400 miners have already received pink slips.
