The popular Christmas Lights on Paris Drive is underway, although it is somewhat limited as compared to past years. An agreement was reached earlier this year between the owners of the home with the lights and some disgruntled neighbors with complaints about what the traffic was doing to their neighborhood. The lights will now be on only during the month of December, and from 5:30 - 9:00pm. The street is also limited to one-way traffic.
That direction is eastbound, so traffic will be moving from Eiffel Drive to Chateau Drive. Village officials attempted to address the safety aspect of the added traffic by making Paris one-way near the display during the 2012 Christmas season. Godfrey's Maintenance Director Jim Lewis says so far, there haven't been any complaints.
The now-multiple home display has been a fixture in the D'Adrian neighborhood for a number of years, and is free to enjoy. Donations generated at the display have raised thousands of dollars over the years, donated to both the Crisis Food Center and 5A's animal shelter.
