Earlier this month, Alton's new automated trash pick-up began, and it has apparently been a non-event as far as major problems. The city approved the new deal last October with Allied Waste to make the switch, and the new 95-gallon cans are now in service.

Allied's Manager of Business Development, Susan Piazza says pretty much everyone is settling in to the new routine.

Piazza comments

Some elderly or physically challenged residents may still request a smaller, 65-gallon, trash can, and those wanting an additional can will pay $18 more per year.
