Local attorney and Madison County Board member Kathy Smith is running for the Illinois House.  The Republican nominee is challenging incumbent Democrat Dan Beiser in the 111th District that covers much of the River Bend.  Smith believes it's time for the people of southern Illinois to reject Chicago politics and the role they play in Springfield and the rest of the state.

Smith says voting Republican means giving lawmakers a chance to vote out Democratic House Speaker Mike Madigan, and give residents a chance to pursue an issue she is in favor of, conceal-carry:

Beiser has also come out in support of conceal-carry, as have many southern Illinois Democrats.  Smith also says higher taxes and higher unemployment are the result of Democratic policies that are not working and end up hurting more people than helping.   She says she wants to lower taxes to encourage businesses to come to Illinois and encourage residents to do more business here and not take it across state lines.
