At least six people are now confirmed dead following Sunday’s tornado outbreak in Illinois. Two people were killed near the small southern Illinois town of New Minden in Washington County when an EF-4 tornado ripped across the area around noon. Three people are dead in Massac County after a tornado hit two mobile-home parks in Brookport. One person was killed just east of Peoria when a large twister destroyed a huge part of Washington, Illinois.
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has declared a state of disaster in seven counties. The Illinois National Guard arrived last night in the town and a curfew was in place through the overnight. The storm system popped up in the late morning across the Riverbend and wind gusts of 55 miles per hour were reported at St. Louis Regional Airport in Bethalto Sunday at Noon. As it moved east, it picked up in intensity and lead to the development of severe weather on a line from Chicago to Metropolis.
