An employee of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville says someone tied what he says was a noose to his office door but his bosses failed to take action. George Johnson of East Alton says the incident happened on or around March 5th, 2010, while he was employed as a building mechanic at the East St. Louis campus. Johnson says he reported the incident immediately, but the complaint still hasn't been handled properly.
Johnson filed a lawsuit in Madison County Court claiming the university had a responsibility to ensure a safe work environment and protect employees from racial discrimination. A university spokesman said it disputed the claim, but did not provide additional comment. Johnson is asking for at least 50-thousand dollars in damages.
