You may hear storm sirens sounding over the next couple of weeks if you are in the Wood River, Roxana, South Roxana, and Hartford areas.  Last fall, Phillips 66 entered into an agreement with those four towns to install new sirens, and work has progressed to the point that they are ready to be tested.

Wood River Fire Chief Steve Alexander tells The Big Z they want to make sure everything is working properly before prime time for the spring storms:

Alexander says while storm sirens are definitely a part of the overall protection equation, you must also utilize other methods as well, such as the radio warnings, Code Red alerts, and paying attention to the weather as it develops around you.
