A new greenhouse is going in at Senior Services Plus in Alton, and the head of the local Sierra Club is getting excited about the spring planting season.  The greenhouse will be equipped with a heating and ventilation system as well as a hydroponic system.

The construction of the greenhouse was made possible thanks to a $10,000 grant from Mid-America Transplant Services late last summer.  The Sierra Club's Christine Favilla tells The Big Z they have been working hard to get the facility built.

She says the raised beds at the YWCA on 3rd Street are another example of what can be accomplished in the smaller spaces typical of Urban Gardening.  There are other projects being built and maintained around Alton.  For more information on any of the gardens, call 462-6802.
