If you think a brisk hike would be the perfect way to start your New Year's Day, the Piasa Palisades chapter of the Sierra Club is planning a trip to Pere Marquette State Park January 1.  The club, based in Alton, will head out from the Sierra Club office at the Riverbender Community Center on 3rd Street that morning at 8:00, according to Conservation Field Representative Christine Favilla.

Attendees will decide which hike to take to start the off the New Year.  She says the outings leaders have scouted out the area, and are trained in their craft, to ensure the safety of the hikers.  Contact Jim Bensman at 463-0714 if you plan to attend.
