The City of Alton continues to raise concerns about multiple issues surrounding work that was done to upgrade sidewalks last year. Improper drainage, a lack of proper curbside joints, and a sloping area that fails to meet requirements set forth by the Americans with Disabilites Act were among the major concerns raised by the Alton Committee of the Whole on January 23rd.

The city's contractor for the Downtown sidewalk upgrades, Jun Construction, will be repairing the areas in question, starting with a modification to the top of Third street in order to alleviate the drainage issues. Jun will also be making repairs to the access ramp on Piasa street so that it does meet ADA standards.

Those repairs and others outlined by the committee will come at no cost to the city as Jun will be reimbursed for their work by Sheppard Morgan and Schwabb, the surveying company who originally designed the projects.
