National Great Rivers MuseumWhile there are a number of free and fairly inexpensive events planned for this weekend, two of the marquee events are falling victim to the partial government shutdown.  Squabbling at the federal level has resulted in the cancellation of the The 25th anniversary ceremony at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, which was scheduled to take place today at the Audubon Center and tomorrow's Great Rivers Festival at the National Great Rivers Museum in East Alton have been cancelled, according to Alton Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau spokesman Jong Cambron.

Cambron comments

The government shutdown has closed all trails and boat ramps at the sanctuary and forced the National Great Rivers Museum to remain closed.  Officials estimate the region could lose as much as $80,000 due to the cancellation of these events.
