Investigators are hoping someone will provide a tip that leads to the arrest of the shooter that killed an 11-year-old boy Monday night at the Alton Acres housing complex. The Madison County Coroner's Office says Romell L. Jones died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. Jones was one of several kids in a group at the complex's community center.
The shooting happened at around 5:15pm yesterday and the Major Case Squad was activated shortly after. Alton School District Assistant Superintendent Kristie Baumgartner tells The Big Z they have crisis teams in place to help Jones' classmates and teachers at Gilson Brown Elementary School deal with the tragedy.

Witnesses describe a red car fleeing the scene, and investigators want to find that car. Major Jeff Connor tells The Big Z one big question is why the shooters did this.
