What was originally being investigated as a possible carjacking and shooting that took place last Thursday near the Casey's General Store on Fosterburg Road in Alton is now believed to have started with a home invasion.  29-year-old Brenton M. Webster allegedly went to a home in the 300 block of Tremont Drive in Godfrey and asked to use the bathroom.

That is when investigators say he locked the door and got into an altercation with the homeowner, who then shot Webster.  Madison County Sheriff's Department Captain Mike Dixon tells The Big Z this was not a random act of violence.

Webster is charged with Home Invasion, Armed Robbery, and Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Cocaine).  He was arrested by St. Louis City Police upon his release from a St. Louis hospital and is awaiting extradition to Illinois.
