Floodwaters are falling around the Riverbend and clean up has begun for many, so the Madison County leadership wants you to be careful when hiring help.  If you plan to use a contractor to perform clean up or repairs, you are being asked to proceed with caution, as there are plenty of honest ones out there, but some crooks too.

Madison County Sheriff John Lakin tells The Big Z it's still early, but they have not taken any reports of scammers in the area yet.

He suggests you use local and licensed contractors, get references and several estimates, demand identification, be wary of people who come to your door soliciting their services, and to safeguard your personal information.
