The Sheriff of Calhoun County has pleaded not guilty to two charges following his alleged conduct at a meeting of the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners last summer. 52 year old Bill Heffington of Batchtown appeared yesterday in court to enter the plea to charges of official misconduct and disorderly conduct and a trial date was set for next May.
There has been no official disclosure of the exact nature of what took place during a closed session of the meeting on July 11, other than the official charges. Prosecutors have not released specific details of the incident after a grand jury returned the indictment in September. A judge from outside Calhoun County will preside over the case since it involves the sheriff.
