Officials with Shell Oil Company have announced the Wood River Blending Plant in Roxana will be closing by the end of 2013. The move will eliminate 83 jobs, but the company has offered to help those that would like to stay with the company to find jobs elsewhere.

Plant Manager Gary Gregg:

Gregg comments

He says about one-third of the layoffs will be coming in the 4th quarter of this year, with the rest coming in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2013. Shell has had a presence in the Roxana / Wood River area for about 100 years. Gregg says this facility has been in operation since the mid to late 1950's.
