The National Weather Service says our weather could turn rough later today, with strong to severe storms forecast for the region. In advance of the potential, emergency responders are asking you to be as safe as possible, and most are big fans of the Code Red warning system. Madison County has been using the system a little less than a year, and for many, it proved its worthiness several times already.
Godfrey was the first government agency to subscribe to the system, and Madison County followed suit a few months later. Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold is sold on the system, and hopes you are too.
Code Red is voluntary, and the user must sign up through the company website if they want to be notified by either home landline phone or by cell phone. It allows any resident or business owner in the county to sign up for early warning messages. To sign up, call Madison County Emergency Management at 692-0537, or click on link below.
