Armed security for schools in Madison County is one option being considered in the wake of the tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut, although the sheriff doesn't feel it's on the front burner.  Sheriff Bob Hertz has been meeting with school district officials and discussed a number of possible measures, including arming civilians, hiring a security force or stationing officers at schools.

He says many options are on the table.

Hertz comments

Hertz suggested that a security audit of each school building be done as a first step.
