Seven people died in a plane crash Tuesday morning near the Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington The plane was a 10-passenger Cessna, operated by a charter company in Bloomington, that took off from Indianapolis shortly after midnight Eastern Time. The pilot had filed a flight plan with the control tower in Peoria, says McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage.
They had had radar and, I believe, radio contact with the Peoria airport. That contact was lost, he said at a news conference this afternoon at the sheriff's department.

When the pilot neither cancelled nor completed the flight plan, the Peoria tower put the word out, and Bloomington airport personnel began looking for the plane first on the airport grounds, and then outside. They discovered the crashed aircraft in a farm field east of the airport, and the coroner arrived and pronounced everybody dead.
