An Edwardsville church has agreed to a settlement with the man who was accused of stealing a statue of the infant Jesus from an outdoor nativity scene just days after Christmas.  Charges against 25 year old Matthew Fellhauer of Florissant, Missouri, have been dropped in exchange for restitution.

Authorities say Fellhauer had been visiting friends in Edwardsville when he stole the statue from in front of St. Boniface Church on December 27.  The statue was found, partially damaged, on January 7 at the Watershed Nature Center in Edwardsville.  Fellhauer was charged with misdemeanor theft and criminal damage to property on January 8.   As part of the settlement, Fellhauer agreed to pay for the damages to the statue and will place it in the manger at St. Boniface this Christmas Eve.
