Service has returned to the 50 Illinois American Water customers affected by Thursday’s water main break in Godfrey. Illinois American Water reported a 12-inch break near the intersection of Godfrey Road and Celesta/Taylor Avenue just after 11 a.m. yesterday.
Illinois American Water Spokesperson Karen Cotton says service was interrupted for more than 12 hours and that a boil order has now been issued for those affected by the break.

Cotton recommends bringing any water that will be used for drinking or cooking to a roiling boil before use and says that water can be used for bathing, washing and other common uses without boiling it first. Traffic is being slightly detoured at the intersection due to road repairs which will take place in the weeks ahead.
