A senior citizen was arrested in Madison County last weekend after state police say they found eight duffel bags filled with marijuana in his SUV. Troopers say Richard Nolan of Indiana was pulled over for a minor traffic offense near Collinsville but was later arrested after they discovered more than 100 pounds of pot. The 66-year-old's bond was set at 100-thousand dollars.
Police say Nolan was origionally pulled over for improper lane usage and a K-9 unit indicated possible criminal activity. He was charged with cannabis trafficking. Also last week, the ISP pulled over minivan for a traffic violation, and upon futher investigation and an alert by a K-9 unit, police found several small bundles of cash totalling more than $21,000. The driver was released pending further investigation.
