Police are holding special seat belt enforcement details through the Memorial Day weekend. Illinois Department of Transportation spokesperson Jae Miller says they want to help keep motorists safe over the holiday weekend, and are teaming up with state police and local law enforcement to make sure everyone is buckled up.
She says statistics show guys are the least likely to wear a safety belt.
The seatbelt enforcement zones will be set up in the afternoon and evening hours in Chicago, Rockford, East Moline, Peoria, Springfield, Caseyville, and Marion. There will be plenty of local enforcement as well, as grants have been awarded to a number of local municipalities to perform roadside safety checks through the long weekend as well.
