The Alton NAACP and Alton School District are teaming up for a free school supply giveaway this Saturday.  It’s the 21st year of the Back to School, Stay in School event, and it will take place at the James Killion Park at Salu on August 13 from 10am to 12:30pm.

The event is open to any student who needs school supplies, and the child needs to attend with their parent in order to receive the materials.  Alton NAACP President James Gray tells the Big Z he founded this event so he could give back:

Each child in grades K-12 will receive a free backpack filled with the appropriate school supplies for their grade.  The event will also feature a variety of booths and a keynote by Argosy Casino VP and GM Joel Sheridan about the importance of an education.  A free picnic lunch will also be provided.  In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Alton Middle School Annex gym.   You can hear the full interview about the event by going to the PODCASTS tab at the top of the page.
