Students and staff will return to Alton High School and Alton Middle School Tuesday after being evacuated from both locations on Monday. Threats were apparently received just before noon, prompting administrators to send students and staff to nearby churches. The Madison County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene at Alton High.
At about the same time, Alton Police were called to respond to a threat at Alton Middle School. The Alton Police Department stated on its Facebook page that no bombs had been found. The Illinois Secretary of State and Lambert International Airport K9 units were brought in to assist in the investigation. According to information shared by the school district, both buildings were cleared by law enforcement at about 4:30pm in order for personal belongings to be retrieved in preparation for Tuesday classes. The threats remain under investigation.
