The Alton School Board has approved the agreement to begin work on the underlying problem behind the sinkhole at Alton Middle School.   The 50 / 50 split in cost will address repair of the storm sewer line that runs underneath the parking lot at the school.

The actual hole was fixed recently, but the problem of a collapsed culvert, which precipitated the hole, was likely part of an aging infrastructure, according to School District Director of Financial Services Chris Norman.

Once the sewer work is done, the district will resurface the entire parking lot, hopefully in time for school to begin next fall according to Norman.
