Construction work at East Elementary School in Alton will continue through the end of the school year, and crews will then shift to the other former district middle schools in the coming years. West is in line for an overhaul during the 2012-2013 school year, and then North Elementary will have work done the following year.
Dave McClintock is the Plant Facilities and Maintenance Administrator for the Alton School District and says the district has been fortunate to have empty school buildings to put students in during the construction and it's actually saving money because construction crews can work during the school year when costs are a little cheaper. McClintock says the school buildings are pretty sound, but needed updating:
Mark Twain and Horace Mann schools will be used the next two school years when the work at West and North is done.
