A growing number of scams are targeting older people and now using threats of physical violence. While the number of those reporting this new type of threat are relatively minor, the Better Business Bureau says they are seeing an increase in the activity. While law enforcement professionals say in these situations you should be very suspicious, these scam artists can be very convincing, according to Better Business Bureau investigator Bill Smith.
Authorities say these con artists mostly rely on the generally good-nature of the elderly. Law enforcement professionals advise you contact your nearest police or sheriff's department if you receive such a call. You are also reminded that once you wire money, it is usually gone forever.
