Scammers are at it again and this time they are targeting Ameren customers in the Edwardsville area. Ameren Illinois officials say they are investigating the situation after receiving reports from customers who say they have been duped into paying bogus energy bills after receiving emails or phone calls that appear to be from Ameren. Most of the customers that contacted Ameren on Thursday were small business owners
Last week, a similar scam focused on the Belleville area. Ameren Illinois Spokesperson Brian Bretsch says the calls ask for immediate payment on a March bill, and that should raise a red flag.

Bretsch reminds that customers should never give personal or financial information to anyone who calls, sends emails or comes to their homes unannounced. If you believe you may have fallen victim to one of these scams you can contact Ameren Illinois at 800-755-500, and your local police department.
