Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says scammers that claim to be from Microsoft or other tech support services are targeting Illinois residents. Some of the latest calls are targeting people in Central and Southern Illinois including the Riverbend. She says your best bet is to hang up right away if you get a call like this.
Madigan, who visited Alton and Edwardsville on Monday, says the scammers call and say they've detected viruses or other computer problems and try to trick people to gain access to their computers:

Madigan says you should never give up passwords or financial information to a caller like this. If you've been a victim of the scam, change your passwords and check your computer for problem software. You should also contact your credit card company.
