Whether or not there's a future for the Citizen's Bank Building in East Alton may be known by the end of the summer.  The round building on Berkshire Boulevard has been vacant for a number of years, but a recent plan to demolish it has been put on hold, at least for a few months.

In February, East Alton Mayor Joe Silkwood announced on The Big Z a plan to demolish the building and turn it into green space, but a groundswell of support for the preservation of the building has surfaced since that time.

The village is working with a historic preservation agency to see what the future holds for the building that was built in 1964.  Silkwood says they anticipate having a dollar figure on what it could cost to refurbish the building by the end of summer, at which time the village will advertise for Requests for Proposals.
