A coalition has formed to lobby against same-sex marriage.Eleven conservative and religious organizations have formed the Coalition to Protect Children & Marriage, to try to prevent a law allowing same-sex couples to marry. Paul Caprio of Family PAC says same-sex marriage is a troubling piece of legislation.

“This would be a further attack at the institution of marriage as defined by our law, and as you know, our Illinois law clearly defines marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman,” he said. Caprio says this group will engage in traditional advocacy, asking like-minded individuals to contact their lawmakers, and by having a lobbyist in Springfield. Sponsors of same-sex marriage want to call the bill at the start of January, if they can line up the votes.
