It is a mild forecast over the next several days, but at this time of year, snow and ice could barrel down on the Riverbend at any time. With that possibility in mind, a trooper with the Illinois State Police is offering some tips for area motorists. There are a number of things you should consider when driving around during or after a snow or ice-storm, but among the most important, says Doug Francis, is if it is safe to be on the roads in the first place.
Francis also says motorists should watch out for black ice on the roads. He adds drivers should take it slow when approaching intersections, off ramps and shady areas because they are prone to black ice. And, especially in bad weather and tricky road conditions, drivers should stay off their cell phones.
