For former Governor George Ryan, Wednesday was independence day.  Ryan completed his last check-in at a halfway house in Chicago, officially ending the home confinement that was part of his federal corruption sentence, after a little more than five years on a six-and-a-half-year term.

The "Chicago Sun-Times" reports Ryan's first stop as a man no longer under house arrest was at a barber shop.
