Illinois Route 67 just north of Godfrey could open to 4-lanes at any time, depending on the weather. The multi-million dollar project from Godfrey to Delhi was to have opened before last Christmas when the weather began to turn cold and wet. The hope is to get a few warmer and drier days in a row, to open it up as much as possible.
That would mean 4-lanes from Godfrey to Delhi, but the connector between the fly-over area and the end of Illinois 255 will still have to wait until spring. Even once it has been opened to four-lanes, IDOT Engineer Joe Gasaway says the road will still be under the 45mph construction zone speed limit:
Striping and re-striping the pavement must be done before opening it up, and crews need a few dry days in a row to get that done.
