This Monday, the Illinois Department of Transportation will start on a project that will result in pavement repair and resurfacing of Illinois Route 140 from Annex Street near the Wadlow Statue in Upper Alton all the way to Williams Street in Bethalto, near the Illinois 255 interchange. It is a project that is expected to wrap up around November 30.
As a result, there will be lane restrictions throughout the spring, summer and fall months. Alton Public Works Director Brad Cunningham says the city has a future project that will compliment the work being done on Route 140.
He says the IDOT work will be similar to the work that was recently completed on Broadway in Alton. While he is not positive what the plan is for the Cottage Hills area, he suspects some work will be done in the islands area to open up the traffic flow. IDOT asks that motorists use extreme caution while traveling through the work zone.
