Alton's Rock Spring Golf Course will continue to offer local golfers a nine-hole course for the foreseeable future. A golf course management team led by local businessman Vern Van Hoy took over operation of the course about a year ago, and the city has given tentative approval to a resolution to continue to assist in keeping the course green.
The city will kick in up to $30,000 for the water bill this year, which is a little more than what was paid last year, even in the drought conditions. Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst says it has been a good relationship over the past 10 months.
The Committee of the Whole has also approved the purchase of fencing for the dog park to be built at Russell Commons Park, and has given the thumbs up to closing certain downtown streets this Sunday from 1-2pm to facilitate a dog parade. The full council meets to give final approval to these and other measures tomorrow night at 7:30.
