The recent clean-up day at Rock Spring Park was deemed a success by all involved, and another one is coming up next week. Alton Middle School students and staff joined with other volunteers to help move the park toward returning to its past glory. The initiative is the work of the Alton Park & Recreation Department in cooperation with the Drug Free Alton Coalition.
Clearing brush, attending to problem spots, and cleaning up in general are all projects targeted by the kids, who are taking ownership of the park and their work, according to Melanie Nagel, Drug Free Alton Grant Coordinator.
Alton's Rock Spring Park is the home of 3 shelters, play equipment, 6 tennis courts, ball diamonds, water fall fountain, natural areas, picnic areas and bleachers, and an 18 hole disc golf course.
