Alton's Rock Spring Park is the home of 3 shelters, play equipment, 6 tennis courts, ball diamonds, water fall fountain, natural areas, picnic areas and bleachers, and an 18 hole disc golf course. With all it has going for it, there are portions of the park that have fallen into disrepair, so many of the neighboring Alton Middle School students will be participating in a clean-up day on Friday.
Melanie Nagel, Drug Free Alton Coordinator, says there will be two shifts of volunteers from the school, encompassing students, staff and teachers. They will be cleaning the grounds and knocking down the overgrowth of brush.
Officials with the Alton Park & Recreation Department would like the entire park to look similar to the golf course, meaning it would be open, usable, and safe, with good sight lines. Friday's clean-up runs from 9am-2pm.
