The Alton Fire Department has reported that the lower lanes of highway 67 south off the Clark Bridge at Alton are now closed (as of 8pm Saturday) until further notice due to expected high water on the lower lanes. The only traffic into Alton is Northbound on highway 67 across the Clark bridge at this time. Motorists who want to get to Missouri will have to take Route 3 south and connect with another bridge until further notice.
Other Roadways that IDOT has reported to be closed include: IL 100 through Grafton between IL Route 3 and Ski Lift Road, Marine-St. Jacob Road in Madison County and the Brussels Ferry between Jersey and Calhoun Counties.
Furthermore, IL 155 near Prairie Du Rocher, Water Street (IL Route 3 By Pass) and Kaskaskia Street in Chester, Old 158 near Scott Air Force base and IL 13 east of IL 157 remain closed due to recent heavy rains and rising floodwaters. In addition, the closure of IL 3 in Randolph County has been extended to include the entire segment between Chester and Grimsby. All of the currently closed roads in District 8 are expected to remain closed through at least Monday evening.
Traffic control devices and directional signage, including dynamic message boards have been deployed to assist motorists in safely navigating around major closures. Travelers are advised to consider alternate routes and avoid known closures. Additional travel times should be expected throughout the region. All motorists are urged to be patient as travel times and patterns will be affected throughout the weekend.
Since this is a very dynamic situation, please see the Department’s website, www.idot.illinois.gov, for the latest information on roadway closures throughout Illinois. Detailed information on the MetroEast is also available at www.stl-traffic.org.
