Improvements are being planned for Riverview Park in Alton. The Alton City Council approved a resolution allowing the city to apply for a National Scenic Byways Grant to help pay for improvements to the park that overlooks the Great River Road, and is the Thursday night home of the Alton Municipal Band during the summer.
First Ward Alderman Jim Ryan says they have big plans if the grant is approved.
They also hope to be done with the whole project by 2014- the 100 year anniversary of the park. In other council action, an ordinance was passed approving the tax levy. A couple of numbers were changed with an amendment, most notably in the police and fire pension line items. Both were originally set at $1.875 million, but the new numbers show $1.816-million for the fire pension, and $1.747-million for police.
